You agreed to Hawaiian dress day!
The Experiment
The whole experiment begins with prairie dogs infesting the ship and Crow finding a solution in ferrets and a nice hefty vaccuum cleaner. For some reason, Crow forgets all of this. Either that, or he is fixated on not trusting Mike in everything he says. Ever since they got out of the edge of the universe, Crow's voice and mannerisms have changed. He still shares kinmanship with Tom, but Mike not so much. The apes are as great as ever, which is not much, and soon the bots get penial fever.
Yes, Tom and Crow attempt to get penial juice from Mike, in order to get the film's youth reviving effects. Both of them are robots are thus immune to aging, but it seemed legit at the time. The lawgiver's interactions with the apes is very solid comedy in this episode, especially when Bobo asks Pearl to actually make laws. Why Tom was so high voltage at that moment is quite the mystery, but no complaints here.
The Nanites are a real high point of these skits, while Tom dressing as granny and screaming over and over again is a real low point. Especially when they thought that they needed him to do a one-breath line across the entire ending theme. The Nanites going on strike and picketting their upper management was just good fun.
Leech Woman
A woman is used by her husband to discover and unlock the secrets of gaining youth. After a voyage in the jungle kills her abusive husband, she suddenly doesn't want to part with this secret that requires human sacrifice.
What makes this movie bad?
This is one of the better, less painful movies that Mike and the Bots have covered. That doesn't stop it from being mildly psychotic. The idea that someone would gain the ability to reverse the aging process and go on a murder spree just to get it in with her lawyer is a little more than absurd.
The film is pretty boring, though. There is a very long sequence of stock footage with animals and real jungle views. They must have really been proud of these bits of footage because there is a ton of it, as Crow very eloquently noticed. The movie speeds up and slows down over and over again but it never gets overly languid.
The Riffs
The episode truly shines with the riffs and they are hilarious! This is especially true with the doctor jerk and his interactions with his wife at the beginning. Then there's Mala, who is so old, she lends herself to every old lady riff ever invented. That carries the entire film, along with the "stock mileage" of the jungle animals. Once they come back to America from Africa, the film relies on both the old lady killing people to become young and her lawyer who is absolutely drooling over her in her young form. The riffs simply write themselves when the lawyer's fiance comes in with a jealous tyraid and a gun.
The Episode
Even when the movie wasn't especially bad, it was especially entertaining all by itself. This made the sharp, witty riffs really flourish. The skits really blend well together, even when they were fairly different overall. The Tom Servo "Jed" gag was really the only low point in this episode. It kind of wore out its welcome early on. This is one of those smooth, low rent episodes that goes well in the background as well as full viewing experience. It's funny enough to become a Platinum addition to the MST collection. Give it a watch if you're in it for some weird thriller hilarity. Now, just hold out your neck for a moment... no reason...
